Neglect and Nicole both start with N

Yesterday we spent a good portion of the day at the veterinary hospital. We had to have Master Noah dipped for fleas. Kidding, of course. Our friend Tracey’s cat Bobby was in dire straits and had a life or death situation due to urinary blockage. Noah and I volunteered to escort her to the vet hospital for moral support. We were there for about three hours. That's three hours of following Noah around the winding corridors, three hours of showing him the fish tank, the magazines, the sick doggies, and best of all three hours of playing in the maze of doorways in the entryway. And because I SUCK – three hours without a diaper change. I brought the diaper bag, but lo and behold it had no diapers in it. Noah was generally a good little man and was a big help in keeping Tracey’s spirits up – and in return I punished him with an awful case of diaper rash. I mean AWFUL. Today when I was changing his diaper and using a wipe his poor little butt started to bleed. I feel just horrible about it. I hope it heals soon. Any suggestions besides baths and Desitin? Oh, and calling CPS.

And I'm happy to report that Bobby the cat is already at home with his master recuperating from having his little cat penis operated on. Poor little guy. The vet said he had been a mere four hours away from renal failure and death. We wish him well.

Aloe Vera, anything with chamomile or lavender in it, and fresh air.

On the diaper rash - use Boudreaux's Butt Paste. I know it's a weird name, but it WORKS! I have tried all the others and they never worked as well as the butt paste. Hope it gets better soon!!! Don't feel bad either - it has happened to ALL of us at one time or another.

For us it depends on the type of diaper rash. The normal stuff goes away with a couple of applications of desitin. But if it's the yeasty kind (Dermot's favorite) we have to use Lotrimin AF on it.

I can't believe that he got a rash from that short of time. Poor, sensitive kid. We routinely go about 4-5 hours without a diaper change at this house. Even at daycare they go three hours, although if he had a dirty diaper that would make a huge difference. I think that I may just have answered my own question.

By the way poor cat, but what good owners. So many cats get sick without anyone knowing it, and then they get to the vet after it's too late.

His teeth are STILL bothering him - and I think chance of diaper rash increases with that. He wasn't really dirty, I didn't smell him at all, but he wasn't clean either. It was like he had a tiny bit of watery diaherrea. And the result is this really red chapped looking patches. I feel so bad.

Poor little ouchy baby bottom! I'm with Stine on all the fresh air he can get. Let him play for awhile pantsless on a blanket you don't mind getting peed on. It really does help.

I agree with pantsless and boudreaux's, which works better than desitin for us. the desitin seems to sting or something. bella gets diaper rash all the time from all the damn antibiotics.

3 hours is really not that long, so you're not at all negligent. if it had been like 8 hours, I would start to wonder. (non nighttime hours, of course.)

it was SO nice of you to go with tracey to the vet. that's real friendship. tracey and bobby are lucky to have you.

I took Soph and Jimmy to the vet a while back. Dude. That was a freakin adventure!

Let that bum get some air. That was always my solution to diaper rashy stuff. Of course, that may be why she hates pants now.
