The feasts of Sir Eggerts

Noah is a great eater. We are very fortunate in that way. He eats nearly everything, and lots of it, all the time. But for some reason I’m often at a loss as to what to feed him. I want to make sure he’s getting a well balanced diet and that he’s eating more healthy foods than processed food. But WHAT should I be feeding him exactly. Dinner is the easiest because he eats what we eat. Breakfast is sort of a no brainer because he normally eats some variation of an english muffin/waffle/pancake/toast with some yogurt/apple sauce and fruit. Though I’m sure that is probably getting old. Lunch is the hardest because I don’t eat much of a lunch and therefore I feel like I’ve just been picking out scraps of this and that out of the fridge. So today at the grocery store I was on a mission to find some new food options for the boy. And I didn’t come home with much. I did however make mini-raviolis for lunch and he LOVED them. I also bought a box of frozen meatballs and broke one up with his pasta. So blogosphere – what do you serve a 15 month old for breakfast, lunch and dinner? I need your help.

he is an incredible eater. we've started eating sandwiches for lunch - I have this pampered chef thingie that makes a crustless, sealed pocket out of 2 pieces of bread. you put whatever on a piece of bread, stick another on top, and use this thingie to cut the crusts off and seal the edges. she seems to like it.

at daycare, they feed the kids things that you'd normally have for dinner or breakfast. like chicken stew or tortellini or hot dogs (I know) or pancakes. always with fruit and milk. I am certain that this doesn't help.

Both my kids practically lived on scrambled eggs at that age. Morning, noon and night. That, and the old standby mac & cheese. They have the nifty single serving packs now (Kraft though, not super cool special mac), and they're pretty convenient for feeding little guys. Mine also liked chicken noodle o's from campbell's. The o's are a little easier for them to spoon or pick up than the noodles.

D usually eats leftovers. Our biggest challenge has been making enough for dinner so that we can all eat leftovers for lunch the next day. Sometimes we have to double a recipe. Then, if there aren't enough, we find something else and he still gets leftovers.
We also sometimes just give him something like a veggie pattie or burger or even a can of baked beans (for his protein), with bread, rice, or pasta, and then some canned veggies. To us it seems pretty lame, but he loves canned veggies and they are so easy.

My son has food allergies (eggs, peanuts, soy, peas & lentils) so it makes our menu a little difficult, but we have turkey sandwiches, lots of fruit, grean beans, broccoli, grilled cheese and his MOST favorite meal is homemade macaroni & cheese (really easy - only ingredients are noodles, butter, salt, mustard, flour & milk). He actually loves the homemade stuff so much that he won't even eat the Kraft m&c. With my daughter I did peanut butter (the real smuckers peanut butter w/ no sugar added) and jelly (the simply fruit kind w/out sugar) on whole wheat bread, but now that he's come along, we don't have it much, because he would want it and would be screaming the whole meal :( Hope this helps!

Dermot gets different stuff on the weekends than he gets at day care. We have to send his food with him since we don't eat the crap they serve at daycare. Right now he gets a whole wheat frozen waffle and a canned fruit for breakfast. He won't eat any fresh fruit, but he loves the canned stuff. We sent a banana today. We'll see if he eats it. Then he gets a soy vanilla yogurt for snack. He loves this, so I don't change it. For lunch he gets leftovers like Ethan said. But we try to do the whole protein, veggie, grain thing. He loves bread. So sometimes we just throw that in. For afternoon snack he gets crackers and applesauce. For dinner he eats with us. If he doesn't like what we're eating he gets a veggie chicken patty, fried tofu, baked beans, or even just canned black beans. He's a really good eater too. On the weekends his snacks are less structured. He could get ritz crackers with peanut butter, tortilla chips or potato chips, tings, or chocolate chip teddy grahams (fortified with calcium along with all of that sugar). He doesn't get a morning snack when he's with us usually. I hope this helped a little.

Since I have no children, all I can offer is what I and my brother and sister ate (there's an 8 year differnce so I took care of them a lot.) My favorite breakfast when I was little and now is hot cereal. Either oatmeal or cream of wheat. You can make it with milk and sweeten it with a little brown sugar and throw in some raisins. Mmm...

Also, Mac and cheese for lunch was an all time favorite. Sometimes w/ a little smoked sausage cut up in it. Oh, and the microwave kind doesn't compare to the regular (Kraft in the blue box) and it reheats very well, so you can have several meals out of it.

Thanks GUYS! That really was a big help. Noah does like scrambled eggs and does get them for lunch occasionally and we do sandwiches alot - though it is more like pieces of cheese, meat and bread. Leftovers he eats often - and he loves the spicy black bean burgers by Morningstar. I haven't really been feeding him grilled cheese or mac & cheese - mostly because I'm not accustomed to buying it since Mark doesn't eat cheese.

It was great to hear some new ideas and also get the feeling that I was at least on the right road. THANKS AGAIN!
